Lawn Maintenance in Michigan
weed control

Fertilizing not only encourages growth, but also helps your grass fight off pests, weeds, and disease. The trick is to align your approach with the growing season and your specific grass type.

Know Your Grass Type. Before fertilizing, identify whether you have cool-season or warm-season grass:
✔Cool-season grasses (like Kentucky bluegrass, fescue, or ryegrass) thrive in spring and fall.
✔Warm-season grasses (like Bermuda, zoysia, or St. Augustine) grow best in late spring to early fall.

Timing Matters - Applying fertilizer at the wrong time can do more harm than good:
Early Spring: Helps jumpstart growth after winter dormancy.
Late Spring: Feeds the lawn before summer stress sets in.
Fall (cool-season grasses): Strengthens roots and encourages recovery from summer.

Choose the Right Fertilizer - Look for a slow-release fertilizer to provide nutrients steadily over time.  Check the label for the N-P-K ratio.
